To the rhythm of the messages from Greek civil protection, reminding us of nature’s angry moods, in flames. ‘Evacuate towards the sea – or rather clear out, empty the place,’ it seems to tell us, annoyed every year during the summer when it’s hot. But in fact: Nature does not exist.
I strongly reflect on the words of Alessandro Pignocchi,
“The protection of nature remains a form of assigning function. Where it is considered that for human interests, this space must be protected and this is the inevitable counterpart of exploitation. So the truly radical political horizon to address the devastation of the world is not protection, but a form of living with, where plants, animals, and ecosystems are no longer objects we protect or exploit, but partners with whom we learn to live, and especially to whom we spontaneously attribute interests and a perspective on the world, and with whom we engage in interactions of communication, in social interactions.’
